Theme for this week’s project 52 is moving. Bring on slow shutter speeds and low ISO. I’ll be using the A6000 again as my Ricoh has been shipped to Melbourne for repairs. Didn’t realise how much slower and awkward it is compared to the Ricoh. I am highly considering an X100t when the prices start dropping.… Continue reading Week 08 – Moving
Pick for this week. As usual the close ones below. I could have interchange my number one pick with the guy with the binoculars. Shot abit of people on crutches and cast. Chose the shot above as I generally liked the composition, colour, lines and the way the man seems like he is about to fall.
On a sad unrelated note. My Ricoh GR broke 😦 Hopefully it is an easy inexpensive fix. The A6000 will have to do for this week.
Back to getting a random word generator to pick my theme this week. “Weakness” I have a feeling this is going to be a hard one.
A vertical selection this week. I could not go pass this shot from last night. I enjoy the non interaction of the people around the squatting cone head lady. She has seemingly blended in and has been successful hiding from her friends. Perhaps not so peripheral with the binge drinking culture Australia has but I picked it for the humour and its simultaneous strangeness.
B Sides below are a mix of images captured from the fringe festival in Perth as well as people that live in the fringes of society ie, the homeless (a street photography cliche I know)
The word Fringe of course. Using the available light to illuminate the woman.
Particularly like the juxtaposition of the man selling the big issue, which I took as the “fringe” subject, against the Rio Tinto signage on the building and the camera surveillance sign on the wall.
Came across this man on my way to get some groceries. I wish the government did more. For the life of me I do not understand why cities in Australia do not have public sanitary sort of facilities beyond the toilet.
A man and his long time companion. The bag almost looks like it has obtained some human qualities over the years.
Something about mannequins that are just freaky.
Lady luck was on my side here.
I asked this man for his portrait and to my surprise he agreed. His distance gaze, and soft eyes to me shows vulnerability. He did not talk much, his mind was somewhere else.
Part of the reason I picked this word besides the festival that is happening currently in Perth is the potential openness of the word. Seeing its definitions has sparked new ideas on how to approach this theme. I could potentially go off the beaten path and photograph alleys, BOH, corners etc. Targeting the periphery.… Continue reading Fringe defined
Theme this week is Fringe. To be more specific there is a fringe festival happening in Perth. I like the openness of this theme but it does make it difficult to narrow down the shots (as I found last week). I have a feeling Friday and Saturday will be the days to shoot the festival,… Continue reading Week 06 – “Fringe”
Week 05 – Chinese New Year theme selection and B sides below. This was a hard one as I enjoy shooting this day and the images I managed to catch. To tell you the truth, i could see two to three images for number one, but alas only one can win. I enjoyed shooting this week, and I am happy I ended up with a short series that I can continue for next year.
The photo selected I felt epitomized what I view as “Chinese” as well as the new year. The randomness of the scene, the camo clothing, the women and child holding mobile phones, the colours. Its chaos is somehow held by its coherent absurdity.
Would love to hear your thoughts 🙂
