21/52 – “Rugged”

Theme for this week was suggested by my dad. I have been on the hunt for rugged looking things and people.Used and abused items etc.

I’ve done well this week as I have gone out to the City each lunch time to shoot and eat. I am hopeful the weekend will bring some decent photos to compliment what I havegotten so far.

Stay tuned 🙂

Week 20/52 “Bus” – Selections

Wow another week done. The year is going light speed. It’s almost June. The sun sets here in Perth around 5pm which severely limits shooting time. I chose the image above because I like the layering of the foreground and background element by the three bald men. Plus the stories a viewer could make between the three characters in the frame.

As you can imagine I shot alot around bus stops and took the bus quite abit this week for the brief. (I wasn’t very creative with the whole theme)

I’ve definitely gotten more interesting characters I have taken a photo of in the past but you can only take what the universe dishes out to you in the realms of street photography.

Week 19/52 “Hole” – Selections

Here it is folks. The fish I caught from the week of “shooting”

But sad to say I haven’t really been fishing alot though as I changed my approach lately on these weekly missions. I’ve tried to make photography part of my chores, and daily routine rather than it being the primary goal.

But I think there is something about deliberation and focus. It breeds work ethic, and makes you look and confront the fear that is in street photography, ie photographing strangers. Without focus, my lizard brain was alot louder, giving excuses, fear mongering it was easier to listen to.

What Steven Presfield calls “resistance” won. I am afraid to say,  I became lazy and comfortable and nonchalant with what I was doing.

Down and out (on my way home from the library)

So from Week 20, I’ll be more deliberate, and purposeful with the project. To once again be actively looking for moments, engage with people and be open to the potential no’s and failures in order to get to a worth while image.

19/52 – “Hole”

Finally caught up to the project! For this week, (which started on Sunday) I used a random word generator for the theme.

Today is the last day of shooting. So far I don’t think I have any shots that apply to the theme “Hole”. Better start cracking. I’ll post the final selection later today or tomorrow.

Week 18/52 “Open Theme” – Selections

Almost caught up with the Project which seems to be running away from me! I decided to do an open theme for last week’s theme.

I shot around the very cool Perth Library designed by Kerry Hill architects while waiting for it to open. I can’t seem to get anything productive done at home and the library cures me of resistance.

I find it fun to stay in one spot and see the different sort of images you can capture. Seeing the different types of light, people and shadow in a space makes you learn quite a bit on how to photograph it. I should do it more often. I encourage you guys to try it!

Theme of this week will be up very soon!

Week 17/52 “Home Bound” – Selections

A week of shooting after I got back from overseas. I do feel recharged but I wish I was traveling and shooting again! I’ll post Week 18 theme tomorrow. I swear I am shooting daily lol.

Week 16/52 “KL” – Selections

I am still playing catch up with my Project 52! I haven’t forgotten just sorting out photos etc.

Anyhow, selections from my unplanned trip to KL. I was suppose to go back to Perth but decided to extend my holiday and join my friend  in KL for an extra 5 days. Stayed around Bukit Bintang so there were quite alot of malls/shopping centres around. I believe they call it the “Golden Triangle”

Park behind Petronas towers

I am not a fan of malls, very sterile environment catered to consumption. I did go check them out though as my friend wanted to shop abit whilst their. I find this a trade off when travelling with other people who have no interest in photography. Luckily I was able to still get some photos in between walking.

Busy dad

Looking at the images from KL, there seems to be a sense of building and progress. Everything seems to be on the up and up.

Construction work all over as well as vendors setting up nightly for the markets at Petaling Jaya aka Chinatown.

I spent abit of tiime at Petaling street. Took lots of frames of people setting up their stalls. Wish I stayed longer to see it operating at night.

No shortage of bright colours here

Another place which I enjoyed shooting was KLCC park behind the Petronas towers. They have a large kids pool which is a huge potential for street photos. You can achieve alot of layering here. Just need time, patience and of course luck.
